Akos Kiss is a department manager in subsurface optimization at OMV Petrom S.A. in Suplacu de Barcau, Romania. He joined OMV in 2017 and has since worked in Austria, Romania, and specific workover operations in Tunisia and New Zealand. Prior to joining OMV, he worked in Hungary for an engineering design office, PETROLTERV Ltd., dealing with upstream, midstream, and downstream projects.
Akos received the 2023 SPE South, Central, and East Europe Regional Young Professional Member Outstanding Service Award, 2023 TWA Energy Influencers Award and 2024 Giovanni Paccaloni Young Professional Service Award. He has served as Chairperson of the SPE Vienna Basin Section, serves in the Public Service Award Committee, and in the Young Professionals Committee. He wrote three SPE papers and was the Chairperson of the 2024 SPE Production Optimization in Oil and Gas Assets Workshop in Vienna, Austria.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in earth science from the University of Miskolc, Hungary, and a master’s degree in petroleum engineering from the Mining University Leoben, Austria. He also completed the European geotechnical and environmental course coordinated by Federation of European Mineral Programs.
